Move In Process

Appfolio Websites • Feb 17, 2020
Moving into your new house or apartment is an exciting time, however there is always that unavoidable feeling that something can go wrong. We want to lay out our complete move in process for you, so when it comes your time to get keys you can be worry free!
You finally decide to get your own place, but where do you begin? There are plenty of options out there especially in the West Lafayette/Lafayette areas. The best place to start is always on our main website www.bkmgmt.com. Yes, our listings get sent to outside websites that typically pop up first in your search, however those are not updated as often as we would like. Our home website always has the most up to date information. From there you can narrow down what areas your are looking to move to. The website we use has a super handy map that can show you exactly where the rental is located. Here you will also find pictures, availability and price.

Find a rental you are interested in? You can inquire through our website or give us a call to get your showing scheduled. One of our agents will be in contact with you and when the day comes, meet you at the showing. From there, they can answer any questions you may have.

Think this is the one? Go ahead and go to www.bkmgmt.com to fill out our application. This is a super simple process and usually does not take long to get an approval back. Keep in mind, anyone over 18 will need to have an application on file.

Congrats! Your application is approved! From here we will confirm the date you want to move in, send you the lease electronically to sign and collect your security deposit. Once we have the signed lease and payment back, we will schedule you a time to pick up your keys.

Move in day is finally here and you come to pick up your keys. At that time we need from you first months rent, utility confirmation as well as proof of renters insurance. Without any of these things, we will have to postpone the pickup, but as long as you come prepared it will just take a few minutes of your time!

When you get to your new house, before you start moving things in, we encourage you to document conditions of the unit. We will give you a checklist to go through and return back to us for maintenance to keep on file (this is what your move out condition will be compared to).

Finally, you can relax and enjoy your new home!

Getting ready to move? We totally understand that showing your unit to prospective tenants can be an inconvenience. We want to provide you with some ways that can help speed up the process so hopefully we do not have to show it as many times! When signing a lease with us, you agree to giving us a notice if you plan to renew or not. In the case that you decide you aren’t staying, your unit gets listed on our website immediately for future renters to see and showings will commence. If we are showing a unit that is well taken care of and inviting, prospects are more willing to rent that because it feels like home. On the contrary, if we are taking them into a messy unit with less than happy tenants meeting us at the door, this usually turns them away immediately which means we will have to show it more often to get it leased. Below is a list of things you can do to help us get your unit rented: All clutter is picked up Garbage is taken out Floors are swept, mopped, vacuumed, etc. Dishes are done and put away Bathrooms are in sanitary condition Bedrooms are picked up Laundry piles are put away All outside areas are cleaned up and yard is taken care of We enjoy our tenants and hope that you stay with us, however we do understand that circumstances do change and we would like to make the transition as smooth and possible!
